7 Simple Steps to Avoid Being a Newb in Online Games

Thursday 25 September 2008 @ 5:46 pm

It doesn’t matter if you are new to online roleplaying games. The road to becoming elite isn’t easily traveled. Some will never reach the top of the hill, but you don’t have to remain a newbie forever.

  • Learn everything there is to learn about your chosen game - Head to google or your favorite search engine and type “mymmorpg tips” or “mymmorpg strategies” (substitute mymmorpg for the mmorpg you are currently playing). Surf the various websites and look for the best characters
to start with, the best way to make money/gain equipment, and the best pvp/pk tactics.
  • As soon as you load the game for the first time, find out all there is to know about the user Interface and the controls.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask people in the general area how to do something in game.
  • Speak to people and create a network of friends - Don’t spend too much time with people who don’t know anything about the game. The best case scenario would be to find an “elite mentor” that can show you all the ropes. Once you have a large enough network of friends, you can join any game you please and have the best of the best as soon as you start.
  • Don’t be afraid to die in player versus player combat or player versus environment- Fear will only halt your progress. Find out if you will drop items or not in your chosen game if you die. If you don’t, make sure you embrace every pvp encounter you can.
  • Make sure you have a fast computer and internet connection- If you truly want to compete, you simply can’t allow your machine to get in the way. If you constantly lag from a slow internet connection or poor hardware, your just asking to be killed. 56k isn’t an option. It’s 2005…
  • Don’t make excuses! - If there is something you don’t know, ask someone. If there is something you are not good at, practice until you master it. Are the controls getting in the way? Customize your controls if you can or buy new hardware that will help(4 button optical mice and various peripherals is a start). Make sure you find out the fastest, most efficient way to make currency in your MMORPG. Making money makes all MMORPGs easier; some more than others.

Video Game Violence…What do you think about it?

Wednesday 24 September 2008 @ 5:46 pm
Are video games evil tools and “murder simulators” like they have been labelled? Or are they simply harmless fun?

Ever since video game designers were able to put red pixels on their imaginary characters that had recently deceased, there have been people crusading against their subversive ways. The outrage at video games seems to be cyclic, fading very briefly before exploding into the public eye once more with renewed frenzy. The controversy seems to have sparked up again in recent times, with numerous crimes being blamed on the corruptive influence of video games. There have also been various “controversies” surrounding recent video games and their content in the areas of both violence and sexuality.

Sony PSP Game History

Saturday 13 September 2008 @ 5:12 pm

Author: Mark Gittelman

A new PSP system is not complete without one very important item. No, it is not the battery though that is a necessity. The item in question is one that makes the Playstation Portable system worth having and playing. What could this mystery item be? It is the Playstation game that brings the PSP to life. Without the games, the PSP is nothing more than a very expensive paperweight. Sure you can play a movie, but isn’t the entire purpose of having a hand held game console so that you can play video games?

If you had the choice between a 16-bit game system and a 32-bit game system, you most likely would choose the latter. Sony knew this when they developed their gaming system but they did not stop there. When the Sony PSP Playstation was debuted, they made sure to include a variety of games from different genres to help entice Nintendo gamers into using their new gaming system. Some of these games were Twisted Metal, Philosoma and Ridge Racer.

Video Games - Is Sony Out Of The Race?

Tuesday 9 September 2008 @ 12:49 am

Author: Andre Garcia

That’s a really good question. It’s also a question that, not so long ago, seemed like it would never be raised. But things have changed in the video game industry. Sony, once an industry leader, is now trailing behind both competitors Nintendo and Microsoft. But why is that? Have they really done anything wrong? That’s actually a really difficult question to answer - and even after in-depth market analysis, coming to a final conclusion just doesn’t seem possible. There are so many factors - albeit, some obvious ones as well.

First things first - I think one of the mistakes Sony made was rely too heavily on their own brand name. They probably assumed, you know, “let’s put out this powerful system, hype it up, back it up with our name, and it will sell in droves.” You know, considering how large and popular a company like Sony is, that doesn’t actually sound so bad - and also sounds quite reasonable to a certain degree. Unfortunately though, that just wasn’t the case. This should also help to prove a point that even if you
are such a recognizable and established company like Sony, people in general ultimately don’t buy products just because of the name that backs it.

What Is So Good About Sony?

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 12:41 am

Author: Kozan Huseyin

The Sony name was created by combining “SONUS,” the original Latin for “SONIC,” meaning sound, with “SONNY,” denoting small size, or a youthful boy. It was chosen for its simple pronunciation that is the same in any language. So why is Sony one of the greatest consumer electronic manufacturers?

Since 1946 Sony Corporation has been committed to bringing the world the best in technology. Even though Sony Corporation has been around for many years, the original Sony Corporation was actually called - Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation or more commonly Totsuko. It was only in January 1958 that the company changed its name to Sony Corporation after taking “SONUS,” the original Latin for “SONIC,” meaning sound, with “SONNY,” denoting small size, or a youthful boy. So, the
name Sony was used because of its ease of pronunciation in any language!

Nintendo DS’s Future Developments & EA’s Increased Sales

Tuesday 2 September 2008 @ 12:26 am

Author: David Jones

EA’s just revealed its financial figures from the Q3 Christmas 2007 period (October - December), which shows the company making a whole lot more revenue than ever before.

When you break down the figures for handheld games, Nintendo DS was by far the most impressive performer, with sales up 122 percent from $55 million in Q3 2006 to $122 million.

EA released only five DS games during that time; Boogie, Need for Speed ProStreet, EA Playground, The Sims 2 Castaway and The Simpsons Game but still the DS sales accounted for eight percent of EA’s total turnover.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has been talking about the DS, Nintendo’s future plans for its games and the possibility of non-gaming services being made available to download to DS from public wi-fi hot spots around the country.

He also said “One of the lifestyle proposals we’d like to put into effect in the first half of this year is an experiment aimed at getting people to use their DSs in public spaces as part of a larger effort to make the DS a more helpful tool for people in their everyday lives.

He went on to say “It’s a portable, single-architecture platform that can receive anything given a wi-fi hot spot with over 20 million units in use in Japan and about the same amount in the US and Europe. I really think the idea of making it a gaming machine that’s also useful in your daily life is a good one, and
possible. We’ll be keeping an eye on the experiment’s results while hopefully increasing the number of places you can use your DS in progressive steps.”

Like the PSP’s satellite navigation add-on and the new Skype capabilities, the DS has also already had uses found for it in everyday life â?” language translation software is available for it and in Japan the console has been used to give tourists information when they are on museum tours. Meanwhile, a recent test in the US enabled users at a baseball game to order food as well as watch the game on their DS.

In his interview, Mr. Iwata also speaks about there original idea to do something different with both DS and the Wii.

He went on to say “We knew that if games appealed to fewer people, the future was going to be bleak. And with video games being demonised by the public, it was hard to see how games could flourish in all that. So we knew we had to change it… Hearing stories about customers who seemed like they’d never touch a game scouring store shelves for a copy of Brain Age is what encouraged us.”

The hardened gamer should rest easy. Iwata followed this up by saying that Nintendo would still support more experienced gamers by giving them games such as Zelda, and also more new challenging games although he thinks the benefit of pick-up-and-play titles is they allow experienced gamers to play with newcomers â?” something the CEO said was missing from the market.

So the future of DS is looking bright for the casual gamer and the hardened Nintendo supporter Exactly what we’ll be able to download to our DS in the future that’s useful remains to be seen. Money off coupons for Tesco? Maps? We hope that Nintendo has something a bit more exciting up its sleeve, which im sure it has!!!
